An old man sits on a park bench, engrossed in his newspaper. As he reads about fires in California, a beautiful woman walks by with her dog. A story about murder in the projects captures his attention, as a young man sits besides him to smoke a cigarette. He reads about war overseas, while a runner ties her laces on the bench before taking off. The story continues as a child places his backpack next to him, and he learns how to ride his skateboard.
By the Opinion section, the old man looks up, seeing an empty park around him. He returns to reading commentary on the politicians in office and misses the young girl painting on the grass across from him. As he learns about the death of young soldiers, he misses the husband kissing his wife. The couple eating a picnic, enjoying each other's company, goes unnoticed. When he finishes his daily routine, he tosses the paper into the trash beside him and returns home.
"Nothing but bad news." He sighs.
